In order to update the Salesforce.com database the system needs to know which fields in Salesforce.com you want to update, and also which system fields the data should come from.
Go to the Menu option, Tools > Salesforce.com > Field Mapping.
Enter your Salesforce.com login credentials. You may need to add your Salesforce.com Security Token to your password, if do not know it you can edit your user details in Salesforce.com and request the Security Token to be sent to you.
The system now shows all the fields in each Salesforce.com area: Account, Contact, Lead, Opportunity, Task, Event. This includes user-defined custom fields.
For each Salesforce field you want to update/select the relevant system field.
For all Salesforce Account ID fields you must select External Account ID.
For all Salesforce Contact ID fields you must select External Contact ID.
For all Salesforce Lead ID fields you must select External Lead ID.
For all Salesforce Campaign ID fields you must select External Campaign ID.
The Owner in Salesforce will be set to the system Salesperson if set and it matches a user in Salesforce.com exactly, otherwise if a new account is being created then the Owner will be the person who does the upload (the owner for existing accounts will not change if the system Salesperson field does not match a Salesforce.com username.
To set a field to a specific text select the field and press Enter on the keyboard. You can then type any text into the field. Dates must be typed in the format: YYYY-MM-DD
For example, you may want to create a task for an appointment mapping screen put the "appointment" in the Subject field (select the field, press Enter and then type), the appointment DateTime in the "Due Date only" and "Description" (both fields because "Due Date only" does only store the date, so the "Description" will have the date and time of the appointment).
When finished, click the Save button at the bottom of the screen. This will save the details for all page tabs.
These mappings are stored separately for each Database Area.
