If you are looking for information on Email Campaigns in general, please click here.
It is possible to allow / prevent certain Email Campaigns from relating opens and clicks to individual contacts.
If the option is turned off, all opens and clicks are anonymous. This means that you would not be able to see who has opened an email, or who has clicked an email. This also prevents you from triggering additional events when an email is opened or clicked, as that would be a way to work out which contacts have interacted with an email.
Note: As a result of this, if a contact opens an email multiple times, or clicks on a link multiple times, the results will count each of these opens or clicks multiple times. This makes it possible that the number of opens will be higher than the number of emails sent in this case.
If the option is turned on, then all opens and clicks will be tracked and related to the specific accounts and contacts. Each contact can only count as having opened/clicked an email once, so the opened and clicked statistics will be much more accurate. This also allows you to set up the automation and to trigger the additional events when an email is opened or clicked.
Area Default Setting
There is an option under Menu, Setup > Database Areas for each area to set this to on or off by default for each new campaign you create. Choose the area you want to change this setting in, then go to the Email Campaign Settings tab.
By default, this setting will be on for all areas.
Individual Campaign Setting
You can turn this option on or off for a specific campaign step. To do so, either when you create the step, or if you edit the step you will see:
If Detailed Email Tracking has been disabled (unticked) then several options will be grayed out and there is a warning on the screen:
All of the 'Actions performed when an email is opened' are grayed out and reset:
The Link Details are also restricted, so that you can only specify the URL the contact will be taken to. No actions can be performed when a contact clicks this link:
