Additional Fields by default are stored as String fields but this can be changed depending on what data you want to capture.

You have the option of changing the field to a Text field. The benefit of changing the field to be a text field is you have more characters available to you so you can collect more data for example a Note's field.

You can change the field to be a Text field by doing the following;

1. Go to Menu, Setup > Field Headings > Account Additional Fields (or Project Additional field, if you are using Multiple Projects).

2. Find the field that you wish to change.

3. Click the Change Type button to the right -

4. Set the New Type to be Text.

5. Click the Apply button.

A warning will appear that advises you if the field already contains data this change might clear this. As this is the case, we strongly suggest taking an export of the Account number, Account Name and the field you are looking to change before changing the type so you can run an update Import after should you need to.
