This is a way of updating Contact information that has already been added to an Account.

To update Contacts already in the system, the Import file must contain a field which is unique for each Account. Ideally, this would be the account number but can be something else, for example, the company name or telephone number. Note that whatever field is used, it must be an exact match.

To update Contacts you will also need to have a unique contact field such as the Contact Email Address and/or the Contact Telephone/Mobile. Again, please note that whichever field is used, it must be an exact match and unique to each contact needing to be updated.

In the Import Type select and upload the Import file.

Be sure that Customers is selected for Import Type.

Click the Continue button.

Map the fields as per a normal Import, making sure to map the unique reference field. Unwanted fields in the Import file can be ignored and not mapped.

Click the Continue button.

On the Options page (the last page of the Import) select Update Accounts/Contacts.

Clicking on this option will bring up the extra step below.

Select the Key Fields for the Import file in the listbox on the left hand side. You will need to select the unique Account field along with the unique Contact field. If only one Contact field is unique, then it is only necessary to select that one. If it takes a combination of fields to define each record (for example, Contact Email Address and Contact Mobile), click to highlight all those fields.

Select the Update Fields to control which fields should be affected/updated when a matching Account is found in the system. Click to select multiple fields.
